Rene Caovilla Celebrates 50 Years of the Cleo Shoe

Rene Caovilla’s chief executive Giorgia Caovilla was in Los Angeles last week to celebrate 50 years of the Maison’s iconic Cleo shoe at the Chateau Marmont. The event, in one of the hotel’s bungalows, showcased a range of the brand’s archival pumps and sandals, spanning from the 1970s to the present. To celebrate the milestone, the maison has also released a book titled The Art of Dreams: Cleo, a Style Icon for 50 Years, documenting the evolution of the shoe and some of its most iconic iterations.

Founded in 1934 in Fiesso d’Artico, near Venice, by Edoardo Caovilla, the brand remains family owned with the entire production cycle still carried out in-house. The signature style was first created by Giorgia’s father René in 1973 and was inspired by a coiled serpent bangle from first century B.C. Rome that Mr. Caovilla saw on a visit to the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. Ms. Caovilla is the third generation of the family to head the company.

The style, both a technical and design feat, was displayed in 1975 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and has since been seen on the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna, Margot Robbie, Emma Watson and Kim Kardashian. During his tenure, René Caovilla has also collaborated on footwear with designers including Valentino Garavani, John Galliano for Christian Dior and Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel.

Ahmet Zappa’s Halos & Arrows Gallery Pops Up in Beverly Hills

Musician, Zappa Family Trust trustee and founder of online art gallery Halos & Arrows, Ahmet Zappa has opened a pop-up gallery in Beverly Hills. On view and available for a purchase is a section of rare museum-quality, limited edition fine art prints, including works from the Globe Music Archive and photographs by Frank Zinn and Frank Murphy featuring musicians, vintage Los Angeles and pop ephemera.

The L.A. native, who grew up in Laurel Canyon surrounded by artists and art, started the online gallery after his work in music estate management led to him unearthing previously unseen photo archives.

“I wanted to turn my lifelong passion for pop culture into the ultimate destination for awesome art,” Zappa said. “When I talk to friends about the things we love, we can trace them back to personal discoveries made during our formative years. But these totems of our youth shouldn’t be lost in storage bins. With the best large-scale printing available, we can turn these larger-than-life emotional connections into something more like an experience.”

The Halos & Arrows Pop-Up Gallery will be open through December at the Beverly Art Boutique, 341 N. Canon Drive, Beverly Hills, California 90210.

The must-have accessory of the season however was an Erewhon grocery bag created in leather, part of the French fashion house’s new collaboration with the cult supermarket which also includes jerseys, caps and aprons.

The show was followed by not one but two after parties: the first a cocktail party at the Sunset Tower, the second hosted by Cardi B at Whiskey a Go Go which ended at 2 a.m.

‘Poor Things’ Costume Exhibit Opens at ASU FIDM Museum

Searchlight Pictures has partnered with the ASU Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) on a Poor Things costume exhibit at the ASU FIDM Museum. The exhibit showcases the unique, hand crafted costumes from the film created by costume designer Holly Waddington, whose previous credits include Lady Macbeth and The Great.

The film, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, stars Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef  and Mark Ruffalo and is based on Alasdair Gray’s comic novel of the same name, a postmodern revision of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein set in Victorian-era Scotland. “The color palette and the materials that Holly used were all deeply thought through and inspired by what Bella is going through and how she’s evolving,” said Stone.

Waddington took inspiration from Victorian fashion plates, period dress making patterns and late 19th century portraits, especially those by John Singer Sergeant, for the designs. “There’s a modernity to the costumes in this film, but everything comes from a historical source,” Waddington said. “I looked to early 20th German expressionist paintings by Otto Dix and George Grost for color, 1960’s fashion designers inspired by the aesthetics of space exploration, the surrealist witty designs of Elsa Schiaparelli and the impeccable cutting of Madame Vionnet.”

The Poor Things costume exhibit at ASU FIDM will be open to the public until December 15th. Poor Things will  be in theaters beginning December 8.

The brand worked with Los Angeles-based creative studio PlayLab, Inc on the 2,800 square-foot space which features a conversation pit; a large open-air courtyard; a Local Optimist Space (named for their in-house magazine), a multimedia room that houses work from a rotation of collaborators who will design audiovisual experiences; and Pantry by Madhappy, a café concept with a curated selection of culinary partners including Courage Bagels, Gjusta, Jon & Vinny’s and Beverly Hills Juice.

Founded in 2017, the brand has also created special capsules and accessories to celebrate the opening of Madhappy West Hollywood, available exclusively at 8609 Melrose Avenue location. Luxury conglomerate LVMH acquired a stake in the American direct-to-consumer casualwear brand in 2019.

Desire, Knowledge, and Hope (with Smog) Opens at The Broad

Originally planned for Spring 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic, Desire, Knowledge, and Hope (with Smog), is finally on view at The Broad. Drawing its title from a piece by John Baldessari, the exhibit showcases work by Los Angeles artists of different generations and includes over 60 works–most of which will be on view at the museum for the first time.

The free exhibition, drawn entirely from the Broad collection, includes photorealistic paintings, photography, sculpture, and political signage by artists including Doug Aitken, Lari Pittman, Catherine Opie, Mike Kelley, Sayre Gomez, Toba Khedoori, Patrick Martinez, Ed Ruscha, Mark Bradford and Patrick Martinez.

Other featured artists include Barbara Kruger, who has a gallery dedicated to her work Untitled (I shop therefore I am) (1987-2019). The show’s title meanwhile refers to Baldessari’s monumental work Buildings=Guns=People: Desire, Knowledge, and Hope (with Smog) (1985), in which the city’s notorious air quality is contrasted against familiar depictions of sunshine, beaches, Hollywood, and nature.

“The Broad collection works selected for this show span five decades, and reflect Los Angeles’ growth as a nexus for artists and as a complex urban landscape to investigate,” said Joanne Heyler, Founding Director of The Broad. “The show traces the influence of earlier generations of LA-based artists on later generations and spotlights numerous artists who illuminate deep-seated social inequities and contradictions woven into our city and its myths.”

The exhibit will be on view through April 7, 2024.

Celebrity Stylist Dani Michelle Launches a Jewelry Line

Dani Michelle, the edgy, L.A. based stylist who counts Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber among her cool girl clients, has launched a jewelry line called Méga. The collection includes rings, necklaces, and bracelets in 925 sterling silver and 14K gold plating with prices ranging from $22 – $220, all designed to be stacked and layered.

“Creating Méga is about bringing long-lasting, styled jewelry to an accessible market,” says Michelle. “It’s about layering so your clothes can do less work and your jewelry can say more.”

Michelle worked with her mother, jeweler Stacey Singer, on the design and construction of the pieces which take inspiration from her love of vintage, timeless designs that she found on constant rotation in a world where fashion is forever changing. “Accessories are the most personal part of style,” says Michelle of the line. “Trends come and go, but the timelessness of strong, styled jewelry was something that complimented every look, and exuded both mass appeal and individual character.”

Clean Beauty Brand Ilia Gets a Starring Role in May December

Product placement is a mainstay in Hollywood and beauty brands are no exception. Augustinus Bader’s The Rich Cream had a cameo in Succession, a bottle of Chanel n°5 perfume made an appearance in the biographical drama Priscilla, and now clean beauty brand Ilia has snagged a starring role in Todd Haynes’ latest Netflix feature, May December, starring Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman.

Both actresses had their own makeup artists to create their looks for the film – Heba Thorisdottir for Portman, and Susan Reilly Lehane for Moore – and in one of the most pivotal moments in the movie, Moore is seen applying Ilia’s best-selling Multi Stick, a creamy cheek and lip color, on co-star Portman’s cheeks. “When we shot that scene, I remember looking around and seeing everybody’s jaw was on the floor,” said Thorisdottir. “There’s so much going on in that scene that has everything and nothing to do with makeup. A woman’s cosmetic bag is her holy grail, and so when Gracie says, ‘Oh, it’s just better if I do your makeup,’ Elizabeth hesitates a little bit because she’s shocked by it. Most women would be because it is so intimate.”

The L.A. based brand founded by Sasha Plavsic was acquired in 2022 by Famille C Venture, a French investment firm founded by Prisca Courtin-Clarins and counts Laura Dern, Gwyneth Paltrow, Pamela Anderson and Kate Hudson among its many high profile fans. The brand also gifted the product to guests at the premiere of the film at the Academy Museum which was attended by the full cast.

Wolk Morais Premieres Collection 11 and the Short Film RECTO/VERSO

Designer duo Brian Wolk and Claude Morais presented their eleventh collection in the form of a short film entitled RECTO/VERSO at Grandmaster Recorders in Hollywood last week. Inspired by Jean Genet’s 1955 French existentialist drama, Elle, and narrated by actor Alan Cumming, Collection 11 investigates the play’s timeless theme of image-making through the lens of the culture’s infatuation with social media.

Meanwhile the concept of duality is explored through the collection’s double-sided silhouettes featuring the pair’s signature laser sharp tailoring and reclaimed textiles. “Creating a collection wherein each look tells two stories was the best narrative to represent Hollywood, the lead character in our creative process,” they said of their inspiration.

The film was shot at at Western Costume, Hollywood’s famous film costume house, and styled by longtime collaborator and red carpet stylist Elizabeth Stewart. “I love the double-sided nature of this collection, not only in the design of the individual pieces but in how the collection mixes and matches so well,” said Stewart. “It’s so fitting coming from the designers’ image-making Hollywood hometown.”

The palette and textures of Collection 11 pay homage to the design duo’s filmic inspiration, ranging from houndstooth plaids, technicolor satins, chantilly lace, silk moire and denim, and is composed completely of sustainable materials, utilizing upcycled textiles found within 12 miles of the designers’ studio in Hollywood.

Attendees at the party on the site of the old Bijou silent movie theatre on Cahuenga included fashion heavy hitters Arianne Phillips, Joe Zee, George Kotsiopoulos and Maryam Malakpour and marked the label’s first time hosting a film premiere in Los Angeles.

Chanel Hosts Annual Academy Luncheon for Emerging Women Filmmakers

The Academy Women’s Luncheon, presented by Chanel, brought together a high-wattage crowd of women from all facets of the filmmaking community at the Academy Museum last week. The event included a presentation of the 2023 Gold Fellowship for Women, the Academy’s program to support emerging women filmmakers.

Academy President Janet Yang welcomed guests, followed by actor and former Academy Actors Branch governor Annette Bening, who introduced this year’s U.S. Gold Fellowship for Women recipient Erica End while actor America Ferrera delivered a keynote presentation.

The luncheon, on the day that SAG-AFTRA came to an agreement with the studios after a four month long strike, was attended by Leslie Mann and daughter Maude Apatow, Lily-Rose Depp, Molly Gordon, H.E.R., Patty Jenkins, Riley Keough, Greta Lee, Eva Longoria, Lupita Nyong’o, Ashley Park, Sadie Sink, Kristen Stewart, Diane Warren and Rita Wilson.

Since its inception, the House of Chanel has been linked to the world of film. Founder Gabrielle Chanel first traveled to Los Angeles in 1931 at the invitation of studio mogul Sam Goldwyn, who believed the famed Parisian couturier could make his stars more glamorous.

As a female-founded company, Chanel’s support of the Academy Gold Fellowship for Women is part of the house’s continuing commitment to the art of film and dedication to nurturing the next generation of women filmmakers.

The L.A. Dance Project Announces Expansion at Their Annual Gala Honoring Misty Copeland

The L.A. Dance Project celebrated their 2023 gala last Saturday at Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles. The event, presented by French fine jewelers Van Cleef & Arpels, honored internationally-acclaimed American ballet dancer and Los Angeles native Misty Copeland.

Following a cocktail reception in the historic cathedral-turned-event venue, Lucinda Lent, Executive Director of L.A. Dance Project, and Mark Terbeek, Chairman of the Board of L.A. Dance Project announced a major expansion of the LADP studio in Downtown Los Angeles that will double LADP’s seating capacity and add a dance library and research room.

The evening’s celebration featured several performances, culminating in LADP’s Artistic Director Benjamin Millepied’s return to the stage as a dancer, premiering a new duet to Jeff Buckley’s song Lover, You Should’ve Come Over. During dinner, choreographer Debbie Allen took the stage to introduce Copeland and announce Dance Pass, a new initiative offering members of the Boys & Girls Club of Los Angeles the opportunity to regularly attend LADP performances at their DTLA studio space at no cost.

“Our missions are so aligned,” said Copeland. “Twenty-five years ago, L.A. did not have a company of this caliber and few professional opportunities for dancers. I just want to say bravo for creating this incredible company that is connecting with the community and showing a wide range of dance and diversity.”

Genny Celebrates Their New L.A. Boutique With a Retrospective at Chateau Marmont

Milanese ready-to-wear brand Genny threw a cocktail soiree at Chateau Marmont to toast their new concept store opening in Beverly Hills. Founded in 1962 by Arnaldo and Donatella Girombelli, the brand quickly gained popularity in Italy, and internationally when legendary designer Gianni Versace took the helm in 1973. Creative Director Sara Cavazza Facchini hosted the party in Penthouse 64, which was also a celebration of her 10-year anniversary at the label.

In honor of the occasion, Facchini curated a selection of red carpet pieces she had custom-designed for A-listers over the years (including Miranda Lambert, Eva Longoria, Jaimie Alexander and Claire Holt) along with a retrospective of her favorite designs which were scattered throughout the penthouse. Guests at the soiree included Jaden Smith, Jasmine Sanders, Kate Beckinsale, Carmella Rose, Jarry Lee and Caroline Day, who enjoyed specialty cocktails while Mia Moretti DJ’ed the event.

“The United States is our natural horizon,” said Facchini of the new 2500 sq foot space on Brighton Way. “I felt the desire for a constant presence in California as a true embassy of the maison, capable of representing overseas the key concepts that give life to the world of Genny in order to bring me closer to the brand’s many fans on the West Coast.”

Gabriela Hearst Opens Her First West Coast Boutique at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel

Designer Gabriela Hearst celebrated the opening of her new Norman Foster-designed flagship in Beverly Hills last week. The Uruguayan designer, who stepped down from her role as Creative Director of Chloe in July to focus on her eponymous label, hosted an in-store cocktail event, followed by a dance party at The BLVD with a DJ set by Mike D, that carried on late into the night.

Guests including Laura Dern, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Maria Sharapova, St. Vincent, Tallulah Willis, Lauren Wasser and Dree Hemingway showed up to explore the new location at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Hearst collaborated with famed British architect Sir Foster to design the store, the second one designed for the brand following the London flagship. The brand also commissioned Gavron Dumas Studio to design a collection of bespoke furniture collection for the space, called Nomad.

“This is not a store, it’s a home for us, which was done by many hands that believe beauty is intrinsic to the soul but with the respect of our fellow human and mother nature,” said Hearst. “It is the true result of collaborative work, of everybody having a say and being respected for their talent and knowhow. What you get is excellence, I couldn’t be more proud.”

The flagship will sell the entire range of Gabriela Hearst men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections, fine merino wool and cashmere knitwear, footwear, accessories and handbags, and will be the exclusive retailer for the Gabriela Hearst handbag collection on the West Coast.

LACMA’s Art+Film Gala Honored Judy Baca and David Fincher

The stars turned out in force last weekend for the 12th annual LACMA Art+Film Gala honoring visual artist Judy Baca and filmmaker David Fincher.

The event, co-chaired by Eva Chow and Leonardo DiCaprio, and presented by Gucci, kicked off with cocktails in the courtyard for a high wattage crowd of notables from the art, film and fashion world.

Artists including Catherine Opie, Kenny Scharf, Glenn Ligon and Ed Ruscha were joined by Ava DuVernay, Greta Lee, Halle Bailey, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst, Colman Domingo, Jessica Chastain, Andrew Garfield and Jodie Comer among others.

The gala was the first for newly appointed Gucci Creative Director Sabato De Sarno, who was joined by Gucci President & CEO Jean-François Palus and LACMA Director Michael Govan for the evening.

In a new twist, Gucci also brought the runway to the museum with the introduction of Gucci Ancora Notte, De Sarno’s first eveningwear collection which was worn by models Mariacarla Boscono, Vittoria Ceretti, Kirsty Hume and Abbey Lee for the night. A$AP Rocky, Elliot Page, Andrew Garfield, and Pedro Pascal meanwhile were outfitted in the luxury Italian fashion house’s formal menswear.

Guests were treated to a dinner prepared by three-time Michelin Star Award Winner Chef Mattia Agazzi of Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura in Beverly Hills during Eva Longoria’s tribute to Judy Baca, whose first solo exhibition at the museum, Painting in the River of Angels: Judy Baca and The Great Wall, is currently on show, while Brad Pitt did the honors for filmmaker David Fincher. The evening concluded with a special performance by Lenny Kravitz.

Proceeds from the annual Art+Film Gala go toward underwriting LACMA’s initiative to make film more central to the museum’s curatorial programming, while also funding LACMA’s broader mission. This includes exhibitions, acquisitions, and educational programming that explore the intersection of art and film.

Christie’s gallery in Beverly Hills hosted a reception to celebrate Sami Hayek’s new show Frequency last week. Hayek and his wife, jewelry designer Daniela Villegas, were joined by a crowd that  included his sister Salma Hayek and her husband, Kering CEO François-Henri Pinault, Demi Moore, Anthony Hopkins, Dree Hemingway and Sofia Vergara, to toast the reveal of his most recent work–an exploration of intimacy between materials and patterns, sacred geometry and the physical representation of Solfeggio sounds (a range of frequencies that are believed to promote mind and body wellness).

The Mexican-born, LA based designer is known for integrating his multicultural perspective into a wide range of creative endeavors, including contemporary sustainable furniture collections, commercial interior design projects, and a variety of home accessories while drawing inspiration from diverse cultural sources. “My work has always been about how to charge objects with intention and make people feel a specific way,” says Hayek. “I am convinced that objects are capable of emanating such intention into the spaces they live in and towards the people they interact with.”

The Gucci Horsebit 1955 Bag Goes Vegan

As part of Gucci’s ongoing commitment to a more ethical fashion future, the Italian luxury fashion house unveiled an animal-free iteration of its heritage Horsebit 1955 bag in collaboration with LA’s own Billie Eilish last week. The Academy Award winning singer-songwriter, who has been vegan since 2014, is the face of the campaign, which includes a video set to her song What Was I Made For?

The legacy piece has been updated with an asymmetrical silhouette and is made from Demetra, a next-generation material composed of 75% plant-derived raw material sources including responsibly sourced viscose, wood pulp, and non-GMO corn-based plastic. The leather alternative is the culmination of two years of research and development by Gucci’s own technicians and artisans, is produced in Gucci’s own factory in Italy, and exposed to the same tanning process as its leather goods. The horsebit hardware is made from recycled metal.

“I am honored to be part of Gucci’s evolution in rethinking tradition,” says Eilish. “It’s a new understanding, and one that isn’t afraid to evolve in a new direction, that truly matters to me.” The house also made a significant donation to Support+Feed, an intersectional nonprofit organization founded in 2020 by Eilish’s mother Maggie Baird that is dedicated to combating climate crisis and food insecurity by working toward an equitable, plant-based food system.

Clarins Returns to Town For its Annual Replant Love Environmental Initiative

Heritage French beauty brand Clarins was back in LA for the their annual environmental initiative, in partnership with The Malibu Foundation, Replant Love. The weekend kicked off with a dinner at Nobu Malibu on Friday night attended by Jennifer Morrison, Abbey Cowen, Paris Brosnan, Brittny Button, Talia Jackson and Armani Jackson.

On Sunday the partners hosted a planting event at Juan Bautista De Anza Park in Calabasas with the aim of creating a Miyawaki microforest: a hyper-local ecosystem that increases native biodiversity to support local flora and fauna and serves as a carbon sink.

A-listers including Orlando Bloom turned out to help plant the microforest – the second in Los Angeles County and the first in the Santa Monica Mountains – which will also serve as a seed bank for subsequent microforests around Los Angeles County.

Since the devastating Woolsey wildfires of 2018, Clarins has worked with the non-profit organization to revitalize and regenerate the Santa Monica Mountains. The collective efforts have yielded remarkable results, with more than 22,000 trees planted to date.

Kylie Jenner Gets Into The Fashion Game

Not content with dominating the celebrity beauty space, the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan and world’s youngest billionaire, Kylie Jenner, has launched a clothing line.

Khy, which debuted on November 1st via the brand’s website, was developed in partnership with Emma and Jens Grede, the couple behind Skims and Good American, and is inspired by the influencer’s personal wardrobe and different moods.

The first drop, created in collaboration with Nan Li and Emilia Pfohl of Berlin-based brand Namilia, consists of twelve pieces including a faux leather trench coat, pants and jackets, and nylon-and-elastane base layers in an inclusive-size selection ranging from XXS to 4X, all priced under $200.

“Khy is a homage to the limitless possibilities of fashion,” says Jenner. “We are breaking down barriers and will redefine the meaning of a fashion brand, with creativity and quality at a better price. I wanted to make Khy a platform for our customers to have the opportunity to experience fashion, through new designers and brands, but at a more accessible price.”

To celebrate the launch of the label, the entrepreneur hosted a dinner at celebrity haunt Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica attended by model sister Kendall and Hailey Bieber, all dressed in pieces from the collection.

Priscilla Channels Chanel In Sofia Coppola’s New Biopic

Fashion has always taken a leading role in director Sofia Coppola’s films, and her latest feature Priscilla, based on Priscilla Presley’s best-selling memoir Elvis and Me, has already been dubbed the fashion-lovers must-see of the year.

Starring Cailee Spaeny as a young Priscilla Beaulieu and Jacob Elordi as Elvis, the movie brings the iconic couple’s legendary ‘60s style to the screen with the help of costume designer Stacey Battat (who also worked on Coppola films The Bling Ring and The Beguiled). In addition to creating over 100 outfits for Spaeny alone, Priscilla’s off-the-rack bridal gown was reimagined by Chanel Creative Director Virginie Viard, who took inspiration from Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2020 Haute Couture collection, while Elvis’ wedding tuxedo was made by Valentino.

Coppola is a longtime ambassador for the storied French fashion house (she even interned with Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel in the late ’80s), so the partnership was a natural one. “Virginie made her interpretation based on the historical dress,” says Coppola. “It was an incredible couture dress that we could never have made ourselves. I know it’s really important to Virginie and Chanel to participate in the arts and make things possible.” Chanel has a long history of creating costumes for movies dating back to the 1930s when Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel was invited to Hollywood by Samuel Goldwyn to dress his stars.

A24 hosted the Los Angeles premiere at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in advance of the film’s November 3rd release date last week. The intimate screening, followed by an afterparty at Fanny’s, was attended by a stylish crowd of A-listers including Spaeny and Elordi, Priscilla Presley, Kathryn Hahn, Beck, Linda Ramone, Rashida Jones, Kelly Lynch and Mitch Glazer, after the original red carpet event was cancelled due to a dispute between IATSE and the Hollywood Legion Theater.

Sunshine State: A Solo Exhibition Dedicated To Artist And Filmmaker Steve McQueen

Following in the footsteps of contemporary art galleries David Zwirner, James Fuentes and Shrine’s moves to Melrose Hill, the Marian Goodman Gallery inaugurated its new Hollywood location with a solo exhibition dedicated to artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen featuring the U.S. premiere of his immersive video installation Sunshine State.

The gallery, housed in a historic warehouse, was designed by the L.A.-based architectural firm Johnston Marklee, whose projects include the Knoll Home Design Shop in West Hollywood and the Maison Martin Margiela boutique in Beverly Hills.

Perhaps best known for his award-winning films including 12 Years a SlaveShame, and Hunger, McQueen’s first foray into the medium was as an art student while at Goldsmiths College and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Born and raised in London, McQueen won the Turner Prize in 1999, represented Britain during the 2009 Venice Biennale and was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2011 for services to the visual arts.

Sunshine State is a work of oral history that explores race, identity, racial categorization and stereotypes through the story of the artist’s West Indian father, who worked as an agricultural laborer picking oranges in Florida, layered over scenes from the 1927 film, The Jazz Singer

God’s True Cashmere and Nick Fouquet Team Up on a Capsule Collection

Guests including Olivia Wilde, Anthony Kiedis and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Amber Valletta, Michelle Monaghan, Langley Fox Hemingway, Malin Akerman and Rumer Glen Willis (accompanied by her 6 month old daughter, Louetta), came together at the boutique-cum-gallery Just One Eye in West Hollywood last week to celebrate the launch of God’s True Cashmere and Nick Fouquet’s capsule collection.

Launched last year, the luxury cashmere line by Brad Pitt and jewelry designer and holistic healer Sat Hari is made in Italy with yarns sourced from ethical goat farms. The five piece, limited collection with Venice-based hat maker Nick Fouquet, consists of a button down shirt, a bucket hat and a fedora hat embellished with crystals and Fouquet’s signature matchstick, a tartan cashmere blanket and a talisman necklace–no two of which are exactly alike.

While Pitt was a no-show, the crowd was kept entertained with cocktails and a performance by the L.A. Dance Project. “The collaboration happened pretty organically,” said Fouquet, who counts Gigi Hadid, Madonna, Justin Bieber and Pharrell Williams among his fans. “They reached out to me and we had a similar aesthetic. I came up with this concept of a woven patchwork style shirt with a mantra embroidered inside. Every time I meet with Sat Hari we always do a prayer so I was like we need to incorporate that within the garment.”

The collection is available exclusively at Just One Eye until November 8th before rolling out to other select retailers. Prices range from $290 to $2,790.

Christmas Comes Early Courtesy of Neiman Marcus

Neiman Marcus celebrated the official launch of the holiday season last week at the Sunset Tower Hotel in Los Angeles with the unveiling of its iconic Christmas Book and 2023 Fantasy Gift list.

Guests including Zooey Deschanel, Simu Liu (on crutches after tearing his achilles tendon), Quinta Brunson and Rainey Qualley were treated  to a reveal of this year’s OTT offerings followed by a live musical performance by Leon Bridges.

Along with exclusive products from ready-to-wear, ladies shoes, designer and fine jewelry, handbags, and men’s suiting are once-in-a-lifetime experiences like an Olympic Games Experience in Paris with Ralph Lauren and Team USA; an Escape to the French Riviera for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival with Maison Chopard; and a Star Performer of the Ballet Experience with the American Ballet Theater complete with a walk-on role (no dancing required).

The Neiman Marcus Fantasy Gifts program dates back to 1959 when brothers Stanley and Edward Marcus came up with the gift of a Black Angus steer, delivered on hoof or in steaks, complete with a silver-plated serving cart in response to a press request for unusual Christmas presents. Now in its 64th year, each Fantasy Gift also has a philanthropic component, reminding customers of the importance of giving back.

“It’s an honor to be invited to perform at Neiman Marcus’ holiday launch,” said Bridges. “Growing up in Texas, I have fond memories of going to Neiman Marcus to see the holiday magic they bring to life in their stores.”
